An attorney speaking on behalf of Saline County Assessor Jessica Goodman attended the meeting of the Saline County Commission on Thursday, August 4.

Goodman was not in attendance, but Joshua Sieg, from VanMatre Law Firm, attended the meeting and brought up several issues the Assessor has with the Commission. Commissioners attempted to avoid hearing the issues because they weren’t on the agenda, but Sieg pointed out that elected officials can bring new business to the agenda.

Sieg proceeded to explain that Goodman has three main concerns relating to the Commission. Sieg said the concerns were outlined in a previous letter sent to the Commission. Sieg explained the first issue has to do with the budget and how much revenue is deposited into the county’s assessment fund.

Sieg explained why the 1 percent is supposed to be deposited into the assessment fund.

Sieg said the second issue was relegated to Goodman’s deputies not receiving pay for their paid time off.

Sieg said Goodman wanted something in writing from the Commission in relation to ARPA Funding and the budget.

Sieg mentioned communicating with a lawyer working on behalf of the County Commission and is waiting on a formal response. Commissioners agreed to not take any formal action because the issues weren’t on the planned agenda.
