A recount is not required for a race in a Howard County election after all.

A release from Howard County Clerk Shelly Howell says that after checking with the Secretary of State’s office and reviewing Section 115.601 RSMo, a recount is not mandatory.

KMMO previously reported that the Circuit Clerk/Ex-Officio Recorder of Deeds race needed to be recounted due to the race being within .5 percent. Howell says one of the candidates would have to petition the court asking for a recount to take place after the certification has been completed, should they desire.

The Howard County election is scheduled to be certified on Monday, August 8.
