State Fair Community College’s Student Life is scheduled to host a “Light the Darkness” glow run/walk at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, September 17, on the Sedalia campus.

A news release says the 5K and one-mile course is a no-cost, family event; however, registration is required to participate.

September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and the purpose of this community event is to raise awareness for mental health, suicide prevention and well-being. The college provides awareness programs each academic year about social issues such as abuse, sexual assault, addictions, safety, diversity, and wellness, and offers SFCC Cares resources to students and employees such as free counseling.

The first 150 participants to register will receive a free T-shirt. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in the 5K in all age categories. The parking lot in front of Yeater Center will be closed; participants will need to park in the lot on Clarendon Road by the new Olen Howard Workforce Innovation Center.

You can register online at http://bitly.ws/trNq by September 15.

Same-day registration will be available at 7 p.m. September 17, in the tent in front of Yeater Learning Center where participants can pick up bibs and T-shirts (for the first 150 registered). To view the courses, visit sfccmo.edu/files/about/glowrunwalkmaps.pdf.
