A 38-year-old Kansas City man has been charged with felonies after a vehicle pursuit in Chariton County on July 8, 2022.

According to a probable cause statement, Carroll and Chariton County deputies were in pursuit of a vehicle driven by Aaron Dale Dayton. Dayton’s vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed. The Missouri State Highway Patrol set up a spike strip, which caused Dayton’s vehicle to crash. Dayton’s vehicle swerved to avoid the spikes, struck the spikes, traveled of the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned.

Dayton fled the scene of the accident, but was later found at a residence in Carrollton. Authorities located a backpack near Dayton’s vehicle with a pipe mouthpiece, two small baggies containing a white crystal substance, a glass bottle containing a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana, and other drug-related paraphernalia.

Court documents say Dayton is charged with felonies for driving while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid. Dayton is being held without bond.

Dayton’s initial appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, September 7 at Carroll County Circuit Court.
