Ronald “Gene” Hunter, age 81, of rural Sweet Springs, MO, died Sunday, August 28, 2022, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.

Graveside services with military rites will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 2, 2022, at Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs.  There will be no visitation.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home.  An online guestbook is available at www.campbell-lewis.com.

Born October 10, 1940, in Saline County, MO, he was the son of the late John Price Hunter and Hattie Pauline Akeman Hunter.  Gene lived most of his life in the rural Sweet Springs area and was a graduate of Sweet Springs High School.  He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged.  Gene worked as an assembly worker at General Motors until his retirement.  He was an avid shooter and ammunition reloader and was a member of the N.R.A.  He was also a member, and supporter, of the Missouri Sheriff’s Association.  Gene was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Lexington, was a Master Mason and member of the Council of Cryptic Masons, and a Shriner.  Gene would also want mentioned in his obituary about his two boys, Sam and Joe, who were his constant Yorkie Poo companions and survive of the home.

He is survived by two children, Sharyl Adams and Ronald J. Hunter, both of rural Sweet Springs; seven grandchildren: Jacob Hunter (Blair), Ronnie Hunter (Shay), Troy Hunter (Katie), Brittany Perkins, Brandi Hemme, Hunter White and Dylan Marquess; 14 great-grandchildren; two nephews, Rick Hunter and Larry Hunter; a niece, Linda Ann Church; as well as other extended family.

In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Darlene Beck Brockert; a wife, Dianne L. Hunter; one brother, John Dale Hunter; and two great-grandchildren, Gannon White and Keatyn Hemme.
