The Pettis County Health Center has been notified of a preliminary positive test result in a case of monkey pox in a Pettis County resident.

Based upon the information available, the exposure did not occur in Pettis County.

A news release says there is minimal risk of the disease spreading within Pettis County based on what is known at this time. No additional information will be released regarding the identity of the resident.
No one has been identified that would meet the requirements for vaccination, so no vaccines are planned based on what is known.

The Pettis County Health Center reminds the public that monkey pox is spread by close contact with a person with the disease. This includes sexual contact. Please consider your risks and take action to protect yourself. Sexually transmitted infections are a major concern in Pettis County,

Monkey pox symptoms include rash, fever, chills, swollen lymph nodes, extreme tiredness, muscle aches/backache, headache, and sometimes respiratory symptoms. The rash usually starts 1-4 days after the other symptoms. If you believe you have been exposed to monkey pox and have risk factors, please contact your health care provider.
