A Marshall man has been charged with four felonies after a standoff in Saline County.

According to a probable cause statement, Marshall Police were called to 585 West North at approximately 12:27 a.m September 1, in regards to an incident involving Gilbert Thomas. An officer made contact with Thomas, who appeared irate. While speaking to Thomas, the officer observed a female in the residence. The officer also observed blood on the woman’s face and shirt. The officer requested Thomas let the woman go and also retrieved another subject off the couch. Thomas then slammed the door and began to barricade himself.

The woman stated that Thomas had become angry over some rings that were not in the woman’s or the other person’s possession. The second individual then stated that Thomas had threatened them with a pocket knife and threatened to burn down the house with her in it. Thomas allegedly struck both victims, the first victim more than ten times. Both victims were transported to Fitzgibbon Hospital for treatment.
After a standoff of over three hours, Thomas was voluntarily taken into custody. The knife was recovered on Thomas.

Court documents say Thomas was charged with two felonies for kidnapping in the second degree and two felonies for assault in the third degree. He is being held without bond.

Thomas is scheduled to be arraigned at on September 6   His next hearing is pending at Saline County Circuit Court.
