The Slater City Council announced that it received a Rural Development grant from the Department of Agriculture.

City Administrator Gene Griffith says the grant will help cover the cost of a tractor for Slater Public Works.

In other news from the meeting, the council discussed the upcoming demolition derby that is set to be held in Slater. Griffith explained that an insurance issue might keep the derby from happening.

The derby is scheduled to be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 10.
