
A Marshall man was arrested during a disturbance with a machete on Tuesday, August 6.
According to the Marshall Police Department, officers were dispatched to 931 West College in Marshall at approximately 5:41 p.m. When the officers arrived they observed two male subjects standing next to a red Ford Ranger. The officers involved had been alerted to a man wearing red with the machete. Officers proceed to place 18-year-old Jacob Goodheart into custody.
Goodheart stated that his vehicle had broken down and appeared upset. Goodheart told police that another man had begun to yell at him and approached him from across the parking lot. Goodheart then stated that the man approached him a second time and that he felt threatened and retrieved a machete from his vehicle. Goodheart stated that he did not make any threats and that he was using the machete in self defense.
A witness to the incident stated that she had observed Goodheart pull into the parking lot at Taco Bell and the man made an off-hand comment about the Ford Ranger.
The witness also stated that the man confronted Goodheart to explain to him that he was giving his vehicle a compliment. The witness then stated to MPD that she observed Goodheart retrieve the machete, which was in a sheath and only partially uncovered and walk towards the man.
Marshall Police advised Goodheart that he was under arrest for assault and peace disturbance and transported him to the Marshall Police Department.
A summons was issued to Goodheart and a Marshall Municipal Court date was set for November 17.
