The city of Sedalia is scheduled to replace water mains in several areas within city limits beginning on Monday, October 10.

The City of Sedalia’s Public Works Department wanted to provide residents living in the following areas information about the water main replacements. The water mains in these areas have been experiencing above normal failure rates and will be replaced over the next few weeks.

The following areas are scheduled for water main and service line replacement:
-East 9th Street between South Ingram Avenue and South Hancock Avenue.
-South Ingram Avenue between 3000 South Ingram Avenue and 4000 S. Ingram Avenue
-Driftwood Drive from 200 to 1501 Driftwood Drive.
-Honeysuckle Road from 1500 to 1642 Honeysuckle Road.

Once the new mains have been installed below ground, the balance of work will then involve flushing, sterilizing and testing the new mains to prepare for tying the new mains in to the water distribution system and to individual residences. Less heavy equipment will be in the area during this phase of installation as the boring of the large mains is completed. The large holes where mains were installed will begin being filled, the areas leveled and re-seeded to establish vegetation. Residents should expect to see about the same number of construction workers in the area as the focus is on installation of service lines between the new mains up to the meter serving each home. Following replacement of the mains, service lines will be installed from the new mains to each residential meter.

Planned completion of the construction and installation of the water mains and residential service lines is scheduled for December 23, 2022. Restoration of vegetation will likely be delayed until spring dependent on weather conditions. The majority of this water main replacement project will be bored, so the areas of disturbance will be localized to where the bore machine is placed and where “pot holing” occurs to determine the location of other underground utilities and installation of the service lines. The areas of vegetation disturbance will be monitored in the spring to ensure vegetation is re-established.

Drivers will want to avoid these areas if possible and use an alternate route to avoid delays during construction. The work is weather dependent and may be delayed due to inclement weather.
