The Marshall Community Chorus is beginning its 34th Season with its first concert of the year at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 23, at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Marshall.

The theme of the concert is “The Poet Sings.” It will be a showcase of pairings of great poetry by renowned poets set to equally fine music by contemporary composers.

The music selected for this concert will bring to life the words of poets Shakespeare, Tennyson, Frost, Walt Whitman, Edgar Alan Poe, and Langston Hughes among others.
According to chorus director Ron Sayer, “the music of the composers will showcase the emotions and stories behind the poetry. From the truly sublime setting of Aleksandr Pushkin’s I Loved You to the light-hearted setting of Shakespeare’s poems, to the truly bombastic setting of Edgar Alan Poe’s The Bells”.

The thirty-eight voice volunteer choir, under the direction of Ron Sayer, is dedicated to the pursuit of vocal excellence, musicianship, and artistry, while promoting an appreciation of choral singing in our community.

The concert is free and open to the public and is appropriate for audiences of all ages. Covenant Presbyterian Church is located on the corner of Yerby Street and Lincoln Avenue in Marshall.
