i-70-fire

A portion of Interstate-70 was closed due to a major brush fire during the afternoon hours of Saturday, October 22.

Authorities report that I-70 was closed from Mile Marker 106 to 117 due to there being zero visibility caused by the fire.

The fire started in Woolridge when a combine ignited. The fire reportedly burned down around 15 homes in the area. No deaths were reported, but some people suffered burn-related injuries.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has reopened the highway, but urges drivers to use caution in that area. Crews from Cooper County, Jamestown, California, Howard County, Boone County, Clifton and Otterville all responded to the scene.

KMMO will update this story when more information becomes available.
