
Joan J. Hinrichs, 89, of Marshall, MO, died Monday, October 24, 2022, at her home in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2022, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marshall with Rev. William Voelker officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the church. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Bright Beginnings Early Childhood Center at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home. Born April 3, 1933, in Sanborn County, SD, she was the daughter of the late Clayton Bernard Digerness and Lillian Hetland Digerness. Joan graduated from Letcher High School in Letcher, SD, in 1951 and then earned her Bachelor of Science degree in education from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD. On August 5, 1956, she married James R. “Jim” Hinrichs who preceded her in death on September 29, 2016. The family moved to Marshall in 1974 and Joan taught 3rd grade at Southeast School. In November 1977 they purchased the local Dairy Queen which they owned and operated. Their daughter and son-in-law later purchased it, but Jim and Joan worked there as long as they were able. Joan was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and its Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She enjoyed their supper club, her Friday Lunch Bunch, as well as playing bridge.
Joan is survived by three children: Cynthia Lamberson (Mike) of Marshall, Corey Hinrichs (Tela Gough) of Raymore and Chad Hinrichs (Rhonda) of Tulsa, OK; six grandchildren: Drew Hinrichs (Ashley), Chris Hinrichs (Kara), Connor Lamberson (Kimberly), Morgan Himes (Trevor), Kelsey Hinrichs and Cheney Hinrichs; eight great-grandchildren: Aiden, Audrey, Gus, Alex, Ethan and Charlotte Hinrichs, Beau and Emma Lamberson, and a brand new great-grandson, Tripp Himes; a brother-in-law, Merlin VanWalleghen; as well as a niece and a nephew; and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one sister, Patricia VanWalleghen.
