The Lexington Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of Oneida Street during the afternoon hours of Tuesday, December 6, 2022.

According to Chief Troy Sims, officers were able to confirm two suspects had fled the area and other witnesses confirmed they also heard a suspicious noise that was consistent with gun fire.

Sims made the decision to notify the School Resource Officer to notify the Leslie Bell School only due to the location of the call, causing the school did go into a soft lock down.

The Lexington Police Department is investigating the incident and does have persons of interest it will be pursuing. At no time did the department have any reason to believe the suspects was attempting to do harm to the schools.

Sims urges citizens to report anything suspicious by calling 660-584-2104.
