The Marshall City Council discussed allocating funds to the Marshall Saline Development Corporation (MSDC) during its meeting on Monday, December 5, 2022.
The first reading of the ordinance was brought up during the meeting. Councilman Steve Cook questioned what MSDC is currently doing for the City of Marshall and what has been produced for the city with the existing contract.
City Administrator J.D Kehrman stated that MSDC currently seeks out economic development opportunities for the City of Marshall. Kehrman also stated that MSDC has been involved in the Marshall Junction project as well as the potential for business opportunity at recently acquired property.
The allocation would be in the amount of $15,000.
The council approved the first reading by a vote of five to two. Councilmen Ashford, Guthrey, Craig Thompson, Brandt and Green voted in favor while Councilmen Cook and Leon Thompson voted against.
The ordinance will have to have a second reading at the next council meeting to be approved.
