Smith-Cotton High School Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) chapter members conducted a “Healthy Heart” service project at Sedalia Middle School from November 29 through December 2. HOSA-Future Health Professionals is an organization for students interested in the medical field.

Each day, Smith-Cotton HOSA members met with fifth grade students during their physical education classes. HOSA members had planned stations with games and activities to teach Sedalia Middle School Students about anatomy of their hearts and healthy habits.

Students played “Heart Twister” to identify major chambers and blood vessels, learned about heart rate and blood pressure and compared hearts from different animals.

The Smith-Cotton HOSA chapter has more than 60 members who participate in service projects, gain insight from health-related guest speakers from the Sedalia community and have the opportunity to attend the HOSA State Leadership Conference.
