Peter William “Bill” Hodges, 88, of Sedalia, died Monday, December 12, 2022 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Sacred Heart Church with Father Joe Corel officiating. Burial with full military honors by the U.S. Marine Corps and VFW 2591 will be in Calvary Cemetery. Prayers of the Rosary will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2022 at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel, with visitation to follow from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Sacred Heart School, in care of Mclaughlin Funeral Chapel.

He was born January 28, 1934 in Sedalia, a son of the late William Samuel and Mary A. Winter Hodges. On October 18, 1958 at St. Patrick Church, he was united in marriage to Rosemary Amelia Sedlak, who survives of the home.

Also surviving are a son, Dr. Steven Hodges (Kelly) of Lake Forest, IL; a daughter, Katy Hodges of Sedalia; one grandson, Maxwell Hodges; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill was raised and educated in Sedalia and was a 1952 graduate of Sacred Heart High School. He attended St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, IN on a basketball scholarship. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Korean War.  After returning home, he and Palmer Nichols founded the first Boys and Girls Club of Sedalia.  He graduated from SFCC in 1976 with a degree in business administration. Bill went to work as a carrier for the U.S. Postal Service shortly after his military service and worked his way up to supervisor and later as postmaster, retiring in 1992. In 2013, he graduated from SFCC with a degree in criminal justice and was a deputy sheriff for the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office. He also worked part-time at Sutherlands. Bill was a member of American Legion Post 16 and Knights of Columbus Council 831. He served on the Board of Directors of Sedalia Country Club.  He worked with Boy Scout Troop 61 as an Assistant Scoutmaster.  He was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Church and was one of the first four people to be commissioned a eucharistic minister.
