The Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen discussed an ordinance annexing property north of Interstate 70 during a recent meeting. The property that was discussed is located at Highway 127 and 126 Road and was formerly owned by the Missouri Department of Transportation. A public hearing had been held previously and there were no concerns voiced. The board approved the annexation by unanimous vote.

The board also discussed rezoning a residence at 122 Lexington Street. The rezoning would allow for the structure to be made into two living spaces. The board also approved the ordinance by unanimous vote.

In other news from the meeting, Sweet Springs City Clerk Michelle Fuehring stated to the board that cities and towns with 2,000 or fewer inhabitants can elect to not hold municipal elections if the number of positions are equal to the number of seats available. Sweet Springs voters would have to approve the measure. The city currently has only two candidates running for two Board of Aldermen positions. The board approved a motion to place the question on the April 2023 ballot.
