
Marilyn Nelle “Grammy” Ranes, 98, of Marshall, MO, died Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will take place at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Masonic Cemetery in Jamesport, MO. Born February 5, 1924, in Jamesport, she was the daughter of the late Sherman Horace Ball and Ora Eva Nighswonger Ball. Grammy graduated from Jamesport High School in 1942 and then, along with her twin sister, Margery, traveled to the state of California where their sister, Leona, lived to do their part of the World War II effort as “Rosie the Riveters.” Grammy returned to Missouri where she and her husband raised their family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose mission in life was being a caretaker. Grammy’s enjoyment and love in life was family being together and laughter. She will be missed for her delightful, fun-loving, and witty personality. Grammy will be remembered as hard-working, compassionate and a lover of animals and country music.
She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include five children: Jackie Keller (Dave) of Marshall, JoAnne Ward (George) of Springfield, June Fischer (Dan Spica) of Shawnee, KS, Jill Ranes of Marshall and John Ranes (Debbie) of Grandview; 10 grandchildren: Tim Keller, Kristin Schulte, Jacquelyn Marshall, Travis Fischer, Corey Fischer, Callie Lanser, Dana Burris, Kelly Ranes, Matthew Ranes, and special granddaughter, Hatti Noel who was her caretaker for the last year and half; eight great-grandchildren: Greta, Amelia, Addyson, Kayla, Zachary, Beckett, Pierce and Emersyn; nieces, nephews; and favorite cats, Tom and Agnes.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Frank Ranes; one great-grandson, Jazztyn Presley-Noel Samson; six siblings: Edith Pittman, Raymond Ball, Ralph Ball, Leona Ebert, Roberta Gates and Margery Baltz (her twin).
