A Bates City woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Jackson County on Thursday, February 16, 2023.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the accident occurred when an eastbound tractor trailer driven by 38-year-old Travis Hargadine of Kansas City, lost control in icy conditions and crossed the median into the westbound lanes. The truck impacted a vehicle driven by 47-year-old Rachel Stone of Bates City, colliding head-on.

Stone was pronounced deceased at the scene by Southern Jackson County EMS.

The accident occurred at 6:45 a.m. on Highway 50 at Route 7 in Jackson County.
