The Saline County Career Center Future Business Leaders of America Chapter took part in the National FBLA Week celebrations February 6 – 10. The week was planned by the chapter officer team and advisors. This year, all students and staff at Marshall High School were invited to participate in the dress up days.

FBLA Week began on Monday with “Motivational Monday” where students were encouraged to begin their week on a positive note by wearing PJs to school. “Tuesday Talks” was held on Tuesday and members shared FBLA facts during the daily announcements to raise awareness about FBLA.

“Work Wednesday” was celebrated with business industry tours in Sedalia. Students wore their annual chapter t-shirts to represent SCCC FBLA while touring. FBLA members learned about business operations in the local area and potential careers. The first company FBLA students toured was Retrieving Freedom. This business trains service dogs for veterans and children with autism. As part of this tour students learned about the legal requirements for a retriever to become a service animal, watched training demonstrations and even met the service dogs.

FBLA students continued their tours at the Missouri State Fairgrounds where they discovered the year-round uses for the facilities and the monumental preparation that goes into hosting the state’s largest fair. Students also experienced a guided bus tour through the fairgrounds.

The last tour stop for the FBLA members was at ProEnergy Services which is involved in the production of energy for cities, globally. At ProEnergy Services the FBLA members were treated to an impressive tour of the energy production process which included the beginning of building structures, building wires and control panels, building a turbine engine and ultimately the test facility. The tour ended with students being shown the control room where power is monitored for other states.

Thursday’s theme was “Thoughtful Thursday” and members wrote positive thoughts on paper chain links in FBLA colors which were linked together and put on display in the SCCC business department hallway. Students also wore blue and gold to show off their FBLA pride.

FLBA week concluded with “Fundraising Friday” where FBLA members raised money for the March of Dimes, an organization that raises awareness and funds research for premature births. As part of the fundraising efforts, FBLA members wore purple, the March of Dimes colors, or green for fundraising, and sold popsicles during all lunch shifts. The chapter raised $106.25 from the sales which will be donated to the March of Dimes.
