The Marshall City Council approved ordinances for materials and work improvement of city streets at its meeting on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

The council approved the purchase of paving fabric from Vance Brothers, Inc. of Kansas City, the cost of the fabric is $4.51 per square yard. In the second ordinance, the council approved Vance Brothers to do slurry seal work for certain city streets at a cost of $4.28 per square yard.

Capital Paving and Construction, LLC. of Columbia was approved to do asphalt concrete overlay work in the city at a cost of $135.35 per ton and was also approved to do cold milling work at a cost of $2.33 per square yard.

The work is expected to begin in the spring of 2023.

The council approved closing the streets on the Marshall Square for the Chamber of Commerce Sips and Grins Wine Walk on May 6, 2023. The city ordinance relating to drinking in public will also be suspended from 3:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. for the event.

In other news from the meeting, the council heard the first reading to extend the contract for City Administrator J.D. Kehrman. Kehrman’s current contract ends in September and the extension would be for two-years. The contract would have to be approved by a second reading at the next meeting.
