boil-order-1000x563

UPDATE: The Department of Natural Resources has lifted the boil order for the Fayette Public Water System.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) issued a boil water order for the Fayette Public Water System on Friday, February 24, 2023.

During a routine inspection on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, staff observed feathers in the overflow pipe screen of the Park Tower. The Fayette Public Water System is coordinating with DNR to investigate the extent of the problem.

According to a news release, contamination of this type can contaminate the water with organisms that may pose an acute risk to health. The contamination may pose a greater health risk for infants, young children, the elderly and people with severely compromised immune systems. Those individuals should seek advice about drinking water from their health care provider. General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from the EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 800-426-4791.

Actions being taken for the issue include, draining, power washing, thorough disinfecting and sampling. Curtis Hammons is the contact individual for the water system and can be reached at 660-248-4002 option 6, for any questions regarding the order.

The order will remain in effect until any required actions are completed. Individuals will be notified when the boil water order is lifted.
