A Columbia woman was charged with second degree attempted murder as well as several other felonies in Cooper County on Friday, February 24, 2023.

According to a probable cause statement, a Cooper County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to mile marker 101 on Interstate 70 on Thursday, February 23, 2023 for a report of a domestic disturbance. A victim of the incident was located on the shoulder of the roadway bleeding from his hands. The victim stated that Jennifer Fangmann allegedly had a mental status change and grabbed a knife from her purse while he was driving on the interstate. Fangmann allegedly lurched at two juveniles in the back seat of the vehicle attempting to stab them. The victim grabbed the knife to remove it from Fangmann and was cut in the hand. The victim removed the two juveniles from the vehicle and sat on the shoulder until two citizens arrived on the scene to assist. Fangmann fled the area in the vehicle.

The deputy and a Missouri State Highway Patrol Officer were able to locate the vehicle traveling westbound in the eastbound median a short time later. The vehicle struck a culvert near mile marker 111 where Fangmann exited the vehicle and began to walk away. The deputy and trooper were able to place her under arrest.

According to court documents, Fangmann was charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of domestic assault, two counts of attempted abuse of a child, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, one count of domestic assault and one count of armed criminal action.

Bond was set at $250,000 cash or surety.
