A Leavenworth, Kansas man has been charged with a felony for burglary in the second degree in Lafayette County.

According to a probable cause statement, a Lexington Police Officer was dispatched to a location on Main Street on Monday February 27, 2023 for a report of an individual occupying an empty rental house. The owner of the house was reported to have the individual on the ground. The police officer took the individual, identified as David Derringer into custody. Derringer allegedly stated after the arrest he had gotten into the house by breaking a back window.

The owner stated Derringer had allegedly rushed him and an altercation ensued.

Witnesses stated to another officer, who arrived later on the scene, the dead bolt was missing from a door and a window was missing. The witnesses also stated several boxes were moved around the house and items were missing.

According to court documents, Derringer has been charged with a felony for second degree burglary and misdemeanors for assault, property damage and stealing.

Bond was set at $15,000 cash only.

Derringer was arraigned on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 and has a hearing scheduled for Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
