A Jamestown man has been charged with a felony for possession of a controlled substance in Cooper County.

According to a probable cause statement, on Monday, February 27, 2023 a Cooper County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on Highway 87. Due to prior encounters with the driver Colton Adams and his alleged association with distribution of narcotics, the deputy requested consent to search the vehicle and was denied. A police canine unit was deployed on the scene and detected a drug odor on the driver door seam.

Due to the alert by the canine, a search of the vehicle was conducted.. The deputy located a glass pipe with burned residue and a white container with three small Ziploc bags containing a crystal substance between the passenger seat and center console.

A Nartec Field Tester was used to analyze the substance and yielded a positive result for the presence of methamphetamine.

According to court documents, Adams has been charged with a felony for possession of a controlled substance.

Bond has been set at $15,000 cash or surety.

No court date has been set.
