concordia-2

The City of Concordia is planning on reopening Concordia Park on Monday, March 20th.

The rains and lower temperatures of the past week has delayed the opening of Park-the rains limiting the amount of dirt work and clean up and the temperatures have interrupted the scheduled opening of restrooms at both Concordia Park and Central Park.

The electrical contractor is finishing installation of the area lighting and the trail lighting, and all the underground installation of the wiring is complete. The result of the new lighting is a whiter, more efficient lighting of the driving surface and the trail.

Another completed project is the installation of underground drainage in the area that was the ditch on the west side of the property. Patrons of the park will immediately notice the additional area opened up with the elimination of the ditch.

Areas of the park will have limited access over the future weeks as the city has additional work to be completed.

First, City crews will be hauling and leveling more dirt to final grade, followed by seeding of construction areas. In the mid to late April period, the city has scheduled work on the sewer line dissecting the park. The process they are using is CIPP-Cast In Place Plastic lining of the pipe. This process allows us to line the pipe from manholes—not digging up massive areas and replacing the pipe.

The city is also putting out a call for bid on tree trimming for this spring.

The final step will be an upgrade in the parking areas of the Park—bringing them into ADA compliance. Along with the Parking, the Board of Aldermen has now assigned the design and integration of a crosswalk across Main Street to the entrance of the Park.
