A Sedalia man has been charged after authorities investigated a potential burglary.

According to the Sedalia Police Department, an officer was dispatched to a Sedalia residence in reference to a possible burglary. The officer met with the property owner, who said he didn’t recognize the two individuals in the residence.

One of the subjects, 41-year-old Travis Richey, was sleeping in one of the rooms in the residence. The officer also located bags with methamphetamine and various pills that Richey did not have a prescription for.

Richey told police that he was living with one of the previous tenants at the residence. The property owner told authorities that the previous tenant was evicted two months ago, and that he was not familiar with Richey.

Richey has two prior convictions for creating a controlled substance and one prior conviction for possession of a controlled substance.

Court documents say Richey is charged with a felony for possession of a controlled substance. Bond has been set at $15,000 cash or surety.

Richey was arraigned on March 30. A counsel status hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 11, at Pettis County Circuit Court.
