Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 500 block of South State Fair Avenue in reference to domestic disturbance involving a male subject brandishing a firearm at 10:40 a.m. on Sunday, April 9, 2023.

The male subject left the location according to the report. A detailed description of the subject was relayed to officers. Officers located the subject a short distance from the original call location and observed the subject brandishing a weapon near his waist. The subject refused all commands and revealed to officers he intended to commit suicide.

Officers built a level of rapport with the subject eventually allowing him to be approached. An officer was able to retrieve the firearm. The subject became combative and officers placed him on the ground in handcuffs after a struggle.

The male subject was taken to Bothwell Hospital and admitted for psychiatric care.
