
Evelyn M. Laxson, 84, of Marshall, MO, died Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at The Arbors at Westport Estates in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall with William W. Harlow officiating. Burial will follow at Smith Chapel Cemetery in rural Saline County. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to The Arbors at Westport Estates, Fitzgibbon Home Health and Hospice, Community Cancer Center or Alzheimer’s Association. Born November 21, 1938, in Nelson, MO, she was the daughter of the late Delbert Self and Vineda Korte Self. On August 16, 1959, she married Donald Gene Laxson who preceded her in death on February 3, 2015. Evelyn lived in Saline County most of her life working at Blosser Home for Women many years ago, was then a housekeeper, and then spent many years as in home care giver for individuals. Evelyn had a special talent in helping others and caring for them. She enjoyed taking care of her flowers and plants, earning the Master Gardener designation from the University of Missouri Extension, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include three children: Teresa Vogel (Chris) of rural Marshall, Tony Laxson (Mandy) of Bavaria, Germany and Donna Brown of Marshall; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren: five siblings: Leon Self of Wisconsin, Jenny Grapes of Marshall, Wanda Marcum of Jefferson City, Sylvia O’Bryan of Marshall and Gene Self of Columbia; as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stephanie Vogel.
