
The Odessa Board of Aldermen made appointments and swore in the newly elected aldermen during a special meeting on Thursday, April 13.
The board will have two new officials as Karla Polson was elected to the board from Ward One, and Bob Carey was elected in Ward Three. Ward Two incumbent Bryan Barner was also sworn in. In addition, Barner was selected as Mayor Pro Tem.
Also, the board appointed the recently hired Finance Director and City Treasurer Mallory Chiesa-Cullum. The board also appointed three of its members to serve on the Finance Committee. Ward Two alderwoman Donna Ehlert was already on the committee, and will be joined by the newly elected Polson and Carey.
In other news, the board accepted the results of the April 4, 2023 Municipal Election regarding a question over a city-wide sales tax of three percent on the sale of adult use marijuana sold at retail. Voters approved the tax in the city.
