Melinda Gayle Stansbury, 83, of Lee’s Summit, formerly of Sedalia, died Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at her home.

She was born February 22, 1940 in Independence, a daughter of the late Charles Haskell and Dellas Ruth Meeks Cook. On May 27, 1962 in Sedalia, she married Robert R. Stansbury who preceded her in death on November 7, 2002.

Melinda’s family moved to Sedalia when she was 5 years of age. She was a 1958 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. She graduated from the University of Central Missouri with a B.S. in Education in 1962 and a master’s degree of Science in 1965. She retired from the Sedalia 200 School District after teaching 2nd Grade for 30 years. Additionally, Melinda loved helping families so much she served as a Parent Educator for Parents as Teachers for 13 years. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, and later Celebration Center in Sedalia. Her other memberships included the Missouri State Teachers Association, National Education Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Retired Teachers Association, National Letter Carriers Auxiliary, and the Cosmopolitan Women’s Club.

 

Melinda loved quilting, playing cards, having lunch with friends and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by a son, Christopher K. Stansbury of New Braunfels, TX; a daughter, Kelly A. Burlingame of Lee’s Summit; a brother William L. Cook; and four grandchildren, Jacob Stansbury, Teddy James “T.J.” Stansbury, Holly Stansbury and Peyton Burlingame; and one great-grandchild Teddy Ezra Stansbury.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Harper officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time.
