Smith-Cotton High School senior Brandon Biggs has accepted a scholarship to play bassoon in the concert band and saxophone in the jazz band at State Fair Community College (SFCC) in Sedalia.
Biggs, the son of Deedee and Jeff Biggs, is a four-year varsity letter recipient in band. He earned West Central Missouri Music Educators Association Honorable Mention Band in 2022 and 2023 and is a four-time MSHSAA District Music Festival silver medal recipient. He also was named to the Central Missouri Activities Conference All-Academic band in 2022; CMAC All-Conference Band in 2023; and was the S-C Tiger Pride Marching Band clarinet section leader in 2022.
Max Meigel, Smith-Cotton director of bands, said: “Brandon has been an incredibly positive and reliable contributor to the Smith-Cotton bands. We have asked just about anything and everything of him, from learning saxophone to round out the jazz ensemble to teaching a new student how to play the bassoon, and Brandon has exceeded expectations. His drive and grit are commendable, and we know he will be an asset to the State Fair music program next year. We want to wish Brandon a hearty congratulations and all the best for his continued success.”
SFCC Bands Director Joe Schreimann said, “We are really excited to have Brandon in our ensembles. First and foremost, he is a great kid, just an absolute, stand-out guy. He’s such a talented musician, too, and we are looking forward to having that bassoon sound and all the many other instruments he plays be involved in our programs.”
