A Boonville man has been charged with multiple felonies after a traffic stop on Interstate 70 on Wednesday, April 26, 2023.

According to a probable cause statement, A Cooper County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a vehicle driving in the passing lane for two miles without overtaking a vehicle. The deputy pulled over the vehicle and the driver, identified as James Johnson was found have his licensed revoked and was on probation and parole for delivery of a controlled substance. Johnson denied consent to search the vehicle and a police service dog was brought in. The canine gave a positive alert to a drug odor on the passenger door seam of the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle revealed a torn bag with crystal residue on the driver’s seat and center console. A water pipe was found in the driver’s door with a cloudy white residue and a backpack containing digital scales and glass jar containing a crystal substance was found.

The substances later field tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine.

According to court documents, Johnson has been charged with felonies for driving while revoked and possession of a controlled substance.

Bond has been set at $7,500 cash or surety.
