
Vana Jean Galloway, 72, of Corder, MO, died Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, MO.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with Pastor Ralph Varner and William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Malta Bend Cemetery in Malta Bend, MO. Born March 25, 1951, in Marshall, MO, Vana was the daughter of the late Raymond E. Malter and Josephine M. Van Anglen Malter. Vana was raised in Malta Bend where she was a 1969 graduate of Malta Bend High School. She was a 1973 graduate of William Woods University in Fulton, MO where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree. On May 1, 1982, in Malta Bend, she married John S. Galloway who survives of the home. She had lived in Corder the past 35 years and worked at the Higginsville Habilitation Center for 42 years where she was a Habilitation Specialist. Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) was her second love behind her children and her family. In the SOMO, she ran the Low Motor Events for State Track and Field for over 40 years, as well as served as a coach, a volunteer Area Director for Area 11 for many years, a member of the Sports Management Advisory Council, a Sports Director, a Venue Coordinator and a photographer. She loved SOMO with all her heart and soul. Vana was a member of Corder Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, John; four children, Michael Miles (Heidi) of Malta Bend, Noel C. Galloway (Tricia) of Concordia, Jessica M. McCormick (Scott) of Alma and Elizabeth A. Heevner (Greg) of Warrensburg; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three siblings, Tom Blackburn (Diane) of Concordia, Dona Sperry (Richard) of Bella Vista, Ark. and Fred L. Malter (Julie) of Malta Bend; and numerous nieces, nephews.
In addition to her parents, Vana was preceded in death by one brother, John F. Malter.
