Several area school districts have received grant awards from the School Safety Grant Program.

Governor Mike Parson announced 169 school districts and charter schools were recipients.
The grant program aims to support school safety improvements, including physical security upgrades and associated technology in school facilities (e.g., door locks, monitoring systems), bleeding control kits, and automatic external defibrillators. The $20 million grant was part of Governor Parson’s Fiscal Year 2023 early supplemental budget request. Governor Parson’s Fiscal Year 2024 budget proposal includes an additional $50 million for the program, if approved by the General Assembly.

The school districts receiving grants in the KMMO listening area include:
-Marshall: $200,000
-Sedalia 200: $352,490
-Boonville R-I: $200,000
-Lexington R-V: $150,000
-Santa Fe R-X: $100,000
-Green Ridge R-VIII: $100,000
-Wellington Napoleon R-IX: $100,000
-Prairie Home R-V: $50,000
-Miami R-I: $50,000
Tina-Avalon R-II: $50,000
Blackwater R-II: $40,787

School districts and charter schools applied to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) through a competitive grant application process for a maximum grant amount of $900,000 for districts/schools with the largest student populations.
