On Monday, May 1 at approximately 8:45 p.m., Pettis County 911 Joint Communications was advised of a gunshot victim that had arrived in a personal vehicle at Bothwell Regional Health Center. Sedalia Police responded and learned that the individual was shot on M Highway just outside of the Sedalia City Limits.

Pettis County Deputies responded to the scene on M Highway assisted by the Sedalia Police Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol. The scene was processed and a suspect was developed through investigation. The investigation continued throughout the night until deputies obtained a location of the alleged shooter, identified as 39-year-old Antonio M. Hurst of Sedalia.

Deputies obtained a search warrant for a residence in the 3600 block of South Kentucky and at approximately 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 2 the warrant was executed. Hurst was taken into custody without incident.

The Pettis County Sheriff’s Department has requested charges of first degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

Hurst had an active felony warrant in Pettis County for theft of an automobile with a bond of $7,500 at the time of arrest.

The injuries to the victim were significant and he was ultimately flown to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment.
