The Sedalia City Council approved an ordinance ratifying an agreement with Whiteman Air Force Base and the Sedalia Fire Department for mutual aid services during its meeting on Monday, May 1, 2023.

City Administrator Kelvin Shaw stated the agreement has been in place for many years and it allows for mutual fire department aid in case of emergencies.

In other news from the meeting, Shaw stated the council approved amending the city code in regard to alcohol consumption and sales at the annual Scott Joplin International Ragtime Festival May 31 though June 3. The council added exceptions to the code allowing open containers, consumption and sales specifically near the Pavilion at Second and Ohio Avenue as well as other locations.
