The Marshall Board of Education discussed interior door locks for Marshall Public Schools during its meeting on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.

Superintendent Caleb Petet presented the board a recommendation to purchase the Z-Lock security system at a cost of $13,585. Board member Erin Meyer brought up reservations to the board requesting to table approval of the system pending input from the Marshall Fire Department and Emergency Management Agency. The Marshall Police Department had been consulted and approved of the system. After lengthy discussion the board approved the purchase with installation of the locks before the 2023-2024 school year. Board members Lenz, Carrell, Smith, Green and Shepard voted in favor while Meyer voted against.

In other news from the meeting the board approved the installation of a sidewalk between Marshall High School and the Alternative School.

The approved bid is for $14,000 and the work will be completed by Crackz of Marshall.
