Sam Walker Gilliam, 75, of Gravois Mills, Missouri, formerly of Slater, died Friday, May 5, 2023 at his home.

Memorial services will be Monday, June 12, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Peace Lutheran Church in Slater. Inurnment will be in the Slater City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Monday at the church.  Memorials are suggested to the Lake Regional Hospice in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.

Born September 12, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri, he was the son of the late Henry Walker Gilliam, Jr. and Dorothy Hill Gilliam.  On April 5.

1969 in Evansville, Indiana, he married Sharon L. Purdy, and she survives of the home.

Also surviving are three sons, Jason Gilliam of Cincinnati, Ohio, Stephen Gilliam of Laurie, Missouri, and Eric Gilliam of Arvada, Colorado; a daughter, Allison Zuker of Kansas City, Missouri; and three grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Kohen.

Mr. Gilliam was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Greenview, Missouri.  He was a 1965 graduate of Slater High School, and a 1969 graduate of William Jewell College in Liberty, where he received a degree in Business Administration and Accounting.  He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity.  He was an avid MIZZOU Football fan, and was an Eagle Scout.  While in Slater, he was an active member of the Slater Chamber of Commerce, Slater Development Board, and was a Rotarian and Paul Harris Fellow.  He served for many years on the Board of Directors of the State Bank of Slater, and co-owned and operated the family business, Gilliam Chevrolet in Slater until his retirement.
