Joseph Austin Samson, 88, of Malta Bend, MO, died Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 19, 2023, at St. Peter Catholic Church with Fr. Frances Doyle officiating.  Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.  Memorials are suggested to St. Peter Catholic Church or Fitzgibbon Home Health and Hospice in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home.  An online guestbook is available at www.campbell-lewis.com.

Born August 24, 1934, in Blue Lick, MO, he was the son of the late Raymond Samson and Ruth Dennis Samson.  Joe lived in Saline County his entire life and was a 1952 graduate of Blackburn High School.  On June 25, 1955, he married Doris Ann Chipley who survives of the home.  Joe was a lifelong farmer and was a rural mail carrier for 14 years.  He was an active member of the community having served in numerous roles through the years.  Joe was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.

In addition to his wife of nearly 68 years, Doris; he is survived by four children: Tim Samson of Malta Bend, Linda Gauldin of Columbia, Sherri Schulte (Warren) of Raymore and Raymond Samson (Laura) of Stover; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Ruth Ann Sassmann of Alma, Jewell Rae Medcalf of Marshall and Beverly Moore of Independence; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jeffrey Samson; one son-in-law, Larry Gauldin; one brother, Raphael Samson; and one sister, Mary Kliethermes.
