
Edna L. Smith, 88, of Marshall, died Thursday, May 18, 2023, at her home.
At Edna’s request no services will be held. Inurnment will be in Mt. Horeb Cemetery in Saline County. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home. Friends may sign the online register book at www.campbell-lewis.com.
Born February 13, 1935, in Slater, MO, she was the daughter of the late Preston Yates and Ethel Cowen Yates. She was raised in Marshall and was a graduate of Marshall High School. She married Eddie Williams and they later divorced. In 1965, she married Homer Smith who preceded her in death on June 26, 2008. She and Homer lived in Holden, MO and Edna returned to Marshall when Homer passed away. Edna was a farmer, bought and refurbished farm equipment and sold appliances. She enjoyed working puzzles, playing cards and Bingo, and going to the casino.
Survivors include three children, Lynn Gross (Bill) of Clarksburg, MO, Steve Williams of the Rolla area and Gaylene Smith (Kevin) of Raytown, MO; eight grandchildren, Tobey Weaver (Donna), Daniel Weaver, Erin Neville (Kevin), Michael Cantwell (Leeann), Devin White, Amanda White, Stephanie Dautenhahn (Arti) and Jason Williams; several great-grandchildren; one brother, Harry Yates (Mary Ann) of Lone Jack, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Edna was preceded in death by six siblings, Oliver Yates, Mae Buie, Nellie Zouck, Katherine Yates, Mary Lou Conklin and Evelyn Smithey.
