Billy Ray Haynes, 84, of Marshall, formerly of Gilliam, died Sunday, May 21, 2023 at Big Bend Retreat in Slater.

Graveside services with military honors will be Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Gilliam Cemetery, with Terry Jordan officiating. Pallbearers will be Justin Haynes, Brandon Haynes, Jared Haynes, Nathan Haynes, Stacey Haynes and Joe Todd.  Visitation will be Tuesday from

9:30 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.  Memorials are suggested to Big Bend Retreat in care of the funeral home.

Born August 8, 1938 in Gilliam, he was the son of the late William H.

and Corean Johnson Haynes.  On May 31, 1958 in Slater, he married Billie Francis Narron, and she preceded him in death on October 16, 1989.

He is survived by two sons, Dennis Haynes and his wife Kathy of Columbia, and Kenneth Haynes and his wife Donna of rural Gilliam; a daughter, Anita Elson and her husband Mendell of rural Miami; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Doris Yager of Gilliam, and Connie Humphrey of Grand Junction, Colorado.  He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Haynes; and a brother, Vernon Haynes.

Mr. Haynes was a member of the Gilliam Baptist Church.  He was a U.S.

Army veteran, and a 1956 graduate of Slater High School.  For many years, he was a heavy equipment and bulldozer operator, until his retirement.
