The body of a Carrollton man was found in the Missouri River in Jackson County on Friday, May 26, 2023.

According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 47-year-old Brian Hale had been missing since Saturday, May 20, 2023. The report states Hale’s sailboat was traveling downstream with a broken rudder and floated in front of a stationary barge. Hale was unable to correct the course of the sailboat, striking the barge and submerging. The boat re-emerged from behind the barge and Hale was located on Friday, May 26 at approximately 2 p.m.

The collision occurred near mile marker 360 on the Missouri River in Jackson County.
