Johnson County Clerk, Diane Thompson has announced that the voters within the Warrensburg city limits will have a ballot issue on the August 8, 2023 Special Election.

Thompson noted that, because only voters within the City of Warrensburg are eligible to vote on the issuance of sewer revenue bonds, only the Grover Park Baptist Church Family Life Center will be utilized as a polling location. For this election only, City of Warrensburg voters that normally vote at the First United Methodist Church and the Elks Lodge will cast their ballot at the GPBC Family Life Center on Burkarth Rd across from the hospital.

Thompson also stated that because this is a single entity calling for a single yes or no question, the county will not use electronic voting equipment, but will instead tally the results by hand count. Voters will cast their ballot into a metal ballot box at the polls and the hand count will be performed by a four-person bipartisan resolution team at the courthouse. The resolution team will begin processing the absentee ballots received by mail and cast in the Elections Office at 3:30 p.m. on August 8.

Thompson announced that all normal deadlines apply to a special election – absentee voting begins June 27; the last day to register to vote will be July 12; the last day to request an absentee ballot by mail is July 26. No Excuse Absentee Voting will begin July 25 and conclude August 7 at 5 p.m.. Additionally, the Elections Office will be open on Saturday, August 5 from 8:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m. for absentee voting.
