A Saline County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a residence in Slater in regard to an alleged domestic assault in progress at approximately 9 p.m. on Monday, June 19.

According to a sheriff’s report, upon arrival the physical assault had ceased and the suspect identified as Charles John Acton of Jacksonville, Missouri had retreated into the residence. Acton emerged from the residence in a fighting stance. Slater Ambulance arrived on the scene and evaluated injuries and neither Acton or the 17-year-old male juvenile victim were transported to the hospital.

While being placed in the patrol car, Acton allegedly bit the deputy on the hand. Marshall Police responded to a request for assistance with a vehicle equipped with a prison partition. Acton was transported to the Sheriff’s Department by Marshall Police.

According to court documents, Acton was charged with felonies for third degree assault on a special victim and third degree domestic assault.

Bond was set at $10,000 cash only with conditions.

Acton was scheduled for an initial appearance on Wednesday, June 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Saline County Circuit Court.
