A Johnson County man has been charged with multiple felonies after shooting a incident on Friday, June 16.

According to a probable cause statement, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to a residence in rural Kingsville after a report of a disturbance involving a firearm. A victim stated that Jeffery Varva approached from the back of the residence and allegedly struck the victim’s vehicle with a steel pipe.

Another victim in the incident was allegedly grabbed by the throat by Varva in the incident. The owner of the vehicle attempted to stop the alleged attack but Varva continued according to the report. As the owner of the vehicle was leaving the residence Varva allegedly retrieved a 9 millimeter handgun and fired one round at the vehicle according to a witness. The handgun round did not hit the vehicle and the deputy and a Missouri State Highway Patrol Officer could not locate the round. The witness stated to authorities Varva had been consuming alcohol prior to the incident.

According to court documents, Varva has been charged with felonies for assault in the first degree, armed criminal action, discharging a weapon at a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a weapon while intoxicated and domestic assault.

Varva was arraigned on Tuesday, June 20 and entered a plea of not guilty at Johnson County Circuit Court.
