A Sedalia man has been charged with a sex crime involving a child in Pettis County.

According to a probable cause statement, on June 7 a woman reported to Sedalia Police that her 13-year-old sister had allegedly been sexually abused by an uncle identified as Don Mather after looking through her cell phone. The woman reported that Mather had allegedly been abusing the girl since the age of seven or eight.

On June 14, a Child Safe interview was done on the girl where she confirmed Mather had allegedly inappropriately touched her, taken pictures and had made her watch pornography over a number of years.

On June 19, authorities conducted a search warrant at Mather’s residence and took photos of the bedroom where the abuse had allegedly taken place and seized Mather’s cell phone as well as other items.

According to court documents, Mather has been charged with a felony for a sex crime on a person less than 12 years of age.

Bond has been set at $100,000.

Mather was arraigned on Wednesday, June 21 and has a hearing scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 27 at Pettis County Circuit Court.
