A Sedalia man was arrested and charged for several felonies on Saturday, June 24.

The Pettis County Sheriff’s Office says that deputies pulled over a vehicle with no front license plate on North 65 Highway.

Deputies conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle, and located a large amount of methamphetamine and a firearm. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Cornell Staten, admitted to authorities that he was responsible for transporting the methamphetamine. Staten has prior convictions for other drug related felonies.

Court documents say Staten is charged with a felony for trafficking drugs in the first degree and unlawful possession of a firearm. Bond was set at $100,000 cash or surety.

Staten was arraigned on June 26. A counsel status hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, at Pettis County Circuit Court.
