The Lexington City Council heard an update from City Administrator Mark O’Dell on the city’s new water treatment plant during its meeting on Tuesday, June 27. O’Dell stated the plant, which was scheduled to go online in June would be delayed until August due to supply chain issues. The city will be getting water from three new wells instead of the Missouri River once the plant begins operation. O’Dell stated the new wells are scheduled to be tested the week of July 2. O’Dell also stated the electrical work for the plant is approximately 95 percent done.
In other news, a public forum will be held on Wednesday, July 19 to discuss water rate increases that will go into effect on August 1. The forum will also discuss proposed sewer rate increases in the future in Lexington. According to O’Dell a large amount of rainwater is currently getting into the sewer system during some rain events and the current system cannot handle the excess.
